Five spice chicken

Another one of our feature on cooking inexpensively on the barbecue. These chicken pieces are simplicity in themselves and the spices really lift a simple meal.

  • chicken legs, thighs and wings.
  • chinese five spice powder
  • salt and pepper to taste


  1. If your chicken legs and thighs are still in one piece then cut through to separate. Cut the knuckle off the end of the leg. Cut the tip from the wing and chop the remainder into two pieces. Place all the chicken in a bowl and cover with about ½ tsp of five spice powder per piece. Season to taste and mix well. You can do this in a plastic bag if desired. Marinate for at least an hour. Cook on a pre-heated barbecue until thoroughly cooked – any juices should be running clear. Serve hot.
